Speedometer Drive Sensor

What is a Speedometer Drive Sensor?

The Speedometer Drive Sensor is part of the car electrics system. We have 3 associated problem symptoms connected to it.

What problems can be caused by this part?

Speedometer doesn't show the correct speed

The speedometer speed is very different to the speed shown on sat/nav or roadside speed warning signs. Usually speedometers read a few mph higher than reality but now the speed shows a much bigger difference.

Cruise control not functioning as normal

The cruise control is not functioning as it should. After pressing the button to engage the cruise control the car doesn't maintain the speed. The light may or may not be activated on the dashboard even though the cruise control is not actually working, it depends on the manufacturer.

Check Engine warning light showing on dashboard

The dashboard warning light showing on this page (or one very similar, sometimes a slightly different shape or colour) has appeared on the dashboard and doesn't go off when the car is running.
