Intercooler

What is a Intercooler?
An intercooler is a heat exchanger commonly used in turbocharged or supercharged internal combustion engines. Its primary function is to cool the compressed air before it enters the engine's combustion chamber. The process involves taking the hot, compressed air from the forced induction system (turbocharger or supercharger) and passing it through the intercooler.

The intercooler dissipates the heat from the compressed air, lowering its temperature. Cooler air is denser, containing more oxygen, which improves combustion efficiency and engine performance. Intercoolers come in various designs, such as air-to-air or air-to-liquid configurations, and are typically located between the turbocharger or supercharger and the engine intake manifold.

Check Engine warning light showing on dashboard

The dashboard warning light showing on this page (or one very similar, sometimes a slightly different shape or colour) has appeared on the dashboard and doesn't go off when the car is running.

Engine temperature is higher than normal

The engine temperature reading on the dashboard gauge is noticeably higher than usual. It doesn't seem to be caused by sitting in traffic on a hot day, it is generally just higher all the time.
