ABS Relay

What is a ABS Relay?
The ABS relay manages the power supply to the ABS system. Relays generally handle the switching of circuits in different systems in the car.

Relays allow high power circuits to be switched safely. Certain parts of a car require lots of current to power them (eg the ABS system) the relay is capable of switching this via a lower power circuit.

Relays will degrade over time and can cause problems as the systems they control appear to fail. They're usually very easy to replace.
What problems can be caused by this part?

Car doesn't stop as well as it did

When braking the car doesn't stop as quickly as it did before, it needs more force applied to the brake pedal.

Car skids and brakes lock up when braking hard

When pressing the brakes hard in an emergency stop situation the wheels lock up and the car skids along rather than stop quickly in a straight line.

ABS warning light shows on dashboard

The ABS (Antilock braking system) warning light has appeared on the dashboard and stays illuminated while driving.
