2000 Suzuki Jimny Problems

Ihave a 2000 jimny that has a loud grinding noise that comes on and after 50 yards theres a loud thump and noise goes it does not happen daily but is a pain when it is there I have been told possible transfer box .can any body help

With the snow I have discovered the 4WD is not working at all. It seems as if the power is only going to the rear offside wheel, whichever position the 4WD selector lever is in. The 4WD indicator light works correctly. Any thoughts?
