Skoda Octavia Engine & Drivetrain Problems

Won’t turn starter motor but after this if left 5minutes will start

The car has completed 124k miles full service history. No gear stick vibration just a noise similar to a clutch release bearing. not jumping out of gear and all gear still smooth. A motor mechanic is suggesting a new gear box.

Engine produces a very harsh noise between about 3500 and 4000 rpm in all gears or when revved stationery. Disappers above 4000. Very slight similar noise at 2000 rpm. Doesn't seem to affect performance (no missing).
