The Problem:

For the last 2 weeks, car has been starting, not starting, starting. Last night it wouldn't start so I had to get a jump start. After driving about 20 yards, engine light came on & stayed on & the car lost power. I limped the 3 miles home in 3rd gear with the accelerator pressed full to the floor.
This morning it started with no problems, drove 50 yards when the engine light came back on & i lost powe again. Car is shuddering when foot off the accelerator. Any suggestions?

Car is going into "limp home mode " . You will need to get it scanned and see what codes it shows .

A neighbour has said that it is the control indicator for exhaust light that is on. would this cause the problems that I've been having? The nearest Vauxhall Garage is 23 miles away & don't think the car will make it that far. Any temporary fixes just to get me to the garage?

Solution 2

Suggested Solution

Best to check handbook , but almost sure that is the engine management light which indicates computer has found a fault .Could be something simple like a coil pack or a sensor , but you got to get it scanned to find out .You can go to any garage that can scan car , doesn't have to be Vauxhall dealer .A lot of people prefer dealerships , but might be safer than driving 23 mls , to try local garage if any one can recommend one .

Had it scanned at the local garage. It was the coil pack as you predicted. Thanks so much for you help.
