Citroen Xsara heater blower stuck on full

2000 Citroen Xsara Problem

my citroen xsara has been stood for a couple of months as ive just had the rear axle replaced and now the heater blower is stuck on full whack and i cant turn it down. could this be the resistor or something else. any idea on how much it costs to sort and how easy to do yourself? Any help greafully recieved

sounds very much like a faulty heater switch. try one from the scrap yard. if it is still the same you have a wiring fault.

I have just fixed this. Blower was only working on full power (setting 4). Remove the glove box (small torx self tappers behind the rubber domes that the opener closes onto). Use a torch to see the blower motor casing: it has a large protruding plastic lug in the 8o'clock position. Turn it anticlockwise and the whole fan unit can be withdrawn ("bayonet-type fit"). Reach with left hand to the resistor unit which protrudes down inside the fan cavity and twist the metal cage anticlockwise and pull it down attached to its connecting wires and plug. You will have to use one hand to push the plug off with your fingers, then remove the resistor unit. Use a bradawl or similar to remove the thermal resistor - lots of patience and care - support and clamp it well. Check the resistor has blown...it should pass no current. Replace with similar range one: the original rating is 144C. Maplins sell one rated at 152C for 89p. Part number RA17T. Carefully CRIMP it back into place [DO NOT SOLDER or the high temperature will make it blow!]. Refit the reverse of dismantling.
