I was involved in an accident, my Galaxy was hit from behind: minor damage to bumper, parking sensors and some scratching to tailgate.
The repairs were carried out by the insurer and when i got the car back it displays a new error: 'child lock malfunction'. The key fob no longer locks or unlocked the rear doors, and the child lock button on the door panel has no effect. the rear windows can no longer be opened from the driver door.

Can anyone tell me how to resolve this malfunction? could it be a result of the rear collision or the repairs?

Thanks for any help!

Did you not report the faults on picking up vehicle after repair ? Take it back to them IF those faults were not there prior to repair .If no satisfaction , contact insurance company and they may help in getting it fixed .

Thanks so much for responding.

I went directly to the insurer. The repair company belongs to the insurer.
Long and short of it: repairer says the fault 'couldn't possibly have been caused by their repair' and the insurer backs them.
Insurer says i have to get an independent assessment to say it was either caused by the accident or caused by the repair: if i can prove it, then they will pay.
A Ford dealer says they will charge me £120 to assess it, but i could end up out of pocket if they can't prove anything, right?
Better maybe to go to a local repair shop and get it fixed even if they can't say what caused it?
I've searched a lot online and can't find a similar issue posted...

IF they disconnected the battery when reparing the car it MAY have introduced faults but hard to prove and they probably will deny it .You could try reprogramming key fob , this is only link I can find but usually owners h/book has instructions .

I could be wrong but seem to recollect there was a software update for this problem but you would have to check with Ford dealership on this giving vehicle details , VIN etc ..

Found this on software upate .Even though your car is 2012 , it may apply if older stock vehicle before registration .

Child lock malfunction

" This was common on the early MK3 models but a software update released in April 2011 supposedly cured it. I say supposedly as my car, built 28/11/11, had the fault. "

Thank you, I'll have a look at trying to reprogram the fob.

Repairer says they didn't not disconnect the battery, and the insurer says they believe them...

I was reading also about wiring in the tailgate: I wonder if there could be some wiring relating to this malfunction in the tailgate that might have been damaged in the accident?

Wiring on top , where it passes through into tailgate can often cause faults on most Fords and other makes . Under the rubber sheath the wires can break .
