Hi, my dad has a 1007 and since he has had a new key fob, (the original PCB was refitted in the new fob). the car will not start, the remote works by locking and unlocking the doors, the ignition lights come on and the engine turns over, but does not fire, there is also a message on the centre dashboard saying "car in economy mode" any ideas people ???

Try your other key as a first step fault trace on wether car is reading new key fob.

That's not so good is it as you say it,s happened since he had a new fob .It probably requires coding ,which would be main dealer to do this unless you know a specialist with the correct kit.

If it,s reading the key ,then yes ,if not then no.as it read,s the key and then send,s a start signal to allow Cranking.I can only assume either your key antenna does not recognise the key ,or is not reading the key for some reason.advise take it to a main dealer.

it will turn over it just wont fire. I cant remember whether the chip is seperate or not for that type of fob.

if you have swapped everything over and the locking works from plip then the chip must be seperate and still in old key body.Economy mode is present as battery voltage getting low probably due to trying to start car

Cheers for that, I'm going to see my dad tomorra, so if I put the old key/fob in the car it should start if the chip is in the key ?

just hold the old fob next to it when in the ignition. If it still doesnt start then you will need to get it to a dealer to program the new key

Thanks for all answers, I've found the problem........... Inside the key fob, there is a little plastic block ( which looks like a piece of old plastic just to fill the gap) well this is the chip for the immobiliser, luckily the old fob wasn't thrown away. I fitted it to the new key fob and hey presto....... The car starts.. Cheers everyone
